Breast Cancer/Self-Exam
WHAT IS A SELF-EXAM? It’s the breasts exam made by the woman herself. If you know your breasts, you can see when anything is wrong with them. WHEN SHOULD I DO? Do the self-exam once a month. The best season is right after your period. For those women who no longer have periods, the self-exam must be done every month at the very same day, for example – every 15th day. WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR? In front of the mirror: You should look for deformities or changes on the breasts’ shape, protuberances or retractions, wound around the nipple. On shower or lying on the bed: lumps in the breasts or armpits; secretions from the nipples.

HOW TO EXAM YOUR BREASTS?
In front of the mirror: raise and lower your arms. Observe if there is any abnormality on skin, format changes, protuberances or retractions. During the shower: with the wet skin, raise your right arm and slide your fingers from the left hand gently on breast, extending up to the armpit. Do the same on the left breast.

BE CAREFUL: if you find any abnormalities aforementioned, remember that it’s important to look for a medical service: ambulatories, clinics and public health center can help you. The sooner, the better! Furthermore, if you, for any reason, see your doctor, ask him to examine your breasts. And if a mammography is required, ask the quality seal on your exam’s report. This is the guarantee of a trustable exam.
